Alfonso Alfonsi

Alfonso Alfonsi, is a sociologist, with more than 25 years of experience in social research and educational studies, monitoring and evaluation, scientific networking. His areas of expertise include urban development, urban services for disadvantaged groups, good governance, socialisation of scientific and technological research. He is the representative at the United Nations of a research NGO in general consultative status with UN Economic and Social Council. In this capacity he has taken part in several High Level Segments of ECOSOC, Expert meetings and other UN high level encounters and the General Assembly sessions, participating in the drafting of position documents and organizing parallel events. Both as a researcher and as an NGO representative, he has coordinated international multi-stakeholders networks for development, including the ECOSOC supported “Digital Diaspora Network for Africa” project. He has directed and participated in several research projects in Europe, Africa and Asia (India) Latin America (Brazil, Mexico), on subjects such as governance of scientific and technological research, urban development, city-to-city cooperation, water and sanitation and services for the urban poor. He serves as Science Ethics evaluator and expert for the European Union.
